What is Argan Oil?
Argan Oil Origin
From mere a tourist attraction, Argan Oil has now become one of the most prized Oils in the world. Argan Oil is produced exclusively in Morocco. Argan Oil is extracted from the kernels of Argan fruit which grows only on Argan Tree. Argan tree is a slow-growing tree exclusively found in the Argan forest situated in the south western part of Morocco. The Argan forest, which covers about 8280 square Kilometers, was declared as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1998.
Argan Oil Production
Berber females from Morocco are known for their Beauty, spotless and wrinkle free skin. The secret is hidden inside the Argan fruit, grown on Argan Tree which is unique to Morocco. Goats eat this fruit. The fleshy part is digested, but the nut, because of its hard shell, is excreted. Argan Oil is extracted from these nuts using age old method to protect its nutritional properties.
It takes around 25 years for an Argan Tree to bear fruits. Total annual Argan Oil production is only 2500 MT, which is not keeping up with the boom in demand in the recent times, leading to increase in its price.
Argan oil has been referred to as the “most expensive vegetable and cosmetic oil”, therefore there is nothing called as “Cheap Argan Oil”.
